In Greek mythology, Gaia also spelled Gaea, is the personification of the Earth and one of the Greek primordial deities. Gaia is the ancestral mother of all life: the primal Mother Earth goddess. Her equivalent in the Roman pantheon was Terra. I chose this title for the series because this artwork is in relation to Earth and climate change. At the time of this series being formed, I viewed Leonardo DiCaprio's documentary, "Before the Flood", and was struck by its reference to a painting by Hieronymus Bosch, a triptych altarpiece,The Garden of Earthly Delights. I was alsoreading about the Gaia Hypothesis. Both visual culture and textural sources influenced this imagery.
